Where this conversion is used

Results from formulas and simulations usually come out in pascal, while gauges, data sheets and specifications are written in bar. Divide by 100,000 to convert Pa to bar; for kPa divide by 100, for MPa multiply by 10.

Because the pascal is so small, large numbers are normal: atmospheric pressure is about 101,325 Pa, and a car tyre runs at roughly 230,000 Pa above atmosphere.

Frequently asked questions

How many bar are in 1 pascal?

1 Pa = 1×10⁻⁵ bar. In the other direction, 1 bar = 100,000 Pa.

How do I convert pascals to bar?

Divide the value in Pa by 100,000. Example: 250,000 Pa = 2.5 bar.

How many pascals are in 1 bar?

Exactly 100,000 Pa (100 kPa or 0.1 MPa).

How do I convert kPa or MPa to bar?

kPa ÷ 100 = bar, and MPa × 10 = bar. For example, 250 kPa = 2.5 bar and 0.6 MPa = 6 bar.
